A PhD student position is available in the lab of Osamu Shimmi at the Institute of Cell and Molecular Biology, University of Tartu. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join our team in the field of cell and developmental biology. Our lab is moving from University of Helsinki to University of Tartu during 2019-2020.

We are interested in epithelial morphogenesis and signaling in Drosophila. The current research focus includes:

  • 3D tissue morphogenesis and cell-cell communications
  • BMP signaling in Drosophila wing development
  • Molecular mechanisms underlying epithelial morphogenesis
  • Drosophila as a model system for human diseases

    We provide an internationally competitive research environment and the opportunities to learn the basic techniques of Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, and Advanced imaging analysis. Applicants are invited from candidates who have a background in developmental biology, Drosophila genetics, and/or cell biology, but restricted.
