Reports to: Senior Director, Tomorrow’s Leaders Programs

Purpose: The job holder will play a key role in supporting Tomorrow's Leaders Gender Scholars (TLS), the Tomorrow’s Leaders Undergraduate (TLU) and the Tomorrow’s Leaders Graduate (TLG) teams in strategically achieving the overall programs' goal and objectives. S/he will be responsible for the strategic design and implementation of the Tomorrow’s Leaders (TL) gender component to ensure that gender studies are valued at the institutional level; and that gender studies are open to interdisciplinary research and cross-disciplinary teaching. She/he will not only ensure designed activities are gender sensitive but aim to work with the academic directors to make such programmers become gender transformative. S/he will assist the TL Senior Director in providing technical support and training in gender approaches for various TL programs, program stakeholders and for all program components. S/he will be responsible for the implementation of the gender action plan and will manage the development of various taskforces inclusive of students, faculty, and administrators.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work with the TL team to ensure a high performance, student service-oriented work environment that supports students’ learning and achieves the program’s mission, objectives and values
  • Develop gender-sensitive curriculum integrating the components of academic excellence, community service and leadership development
  • Work closely with The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) senior administration to develop and implement a gender action plan
  • Manage the development of taskforces inclusive of students, faculty, and senior administrators to develop gender policies, integrate gender in multiple disciplines and ensure gender mainstreaming in TL programming
  • Ensure that designed activities are gender sensitive and provide advice on how to make TL activities become gender transformative
  • Mentor TL students during the development and implementation of their creative projects/solutions to community problems and during their annual symposium to ensure gender integration and effectiveness
  • Build the capacity of all TL staff- in collaboration with the academic directors to reinforce their ability to integrate gender from a programmatic perspective through training, guidance, one-on-one support, commenting on plans, and providing input to the design of leadership and civic education modules.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Directors to provide training workshops to AUC faculty, staff and students as needed to promote gender mainstreaming and gender integration.
  • Develop a model for an annual gender event that celebrates research collaborations between students and faculty
  • Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation advisor in collaboration with Near Eastern Affairs of Assistant Coordination (NEA/AC) to develop gender-responsive indicators, and utilize different evaluation tools to assess, evaluate and interpret student needs and trends
  • Liaise with relevant academic departments to develop and offer new gender courses as needed

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement:

  • A master degree or PhD in gender studies or similar work
  • Relevant experience of working in gender studies, gender research, gender activism and/or programming with national and international Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) and public-sector institutions, or in academic institutions

Experience:

  • Minimum of fifteen years of overall experience, preferably in education, gender or development fields
