Historical Magazines Digitization Assistant, Libraries and Learning Technologies: Rare Books and Special Collections Library (RBSCL), Grant Position

Reports to: Assistant Director for Special Projects and Electronic Media

Purpose: To digitize historical magazines collections in order to move them into the active resources of the RBSCL 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Digitize historical magazines using overhead and flatbed scanners
  • Perform post-processing and material preparation
  • Apply basic metadata description
  • Handle meta data entry
  • Perform quality control and check on scans
  • Monitor preservation and conservation treatment of damaged volumes before scanning in coordination with the conservation team
  • Assure the safe retrieval and return of materials requested by digitization lab from various areas of the RBSCL
  • Assist in all matters relevant to security of our collections
  • Perform any other duties as required

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement:

  •  Intermediate diploma
  • Bachelor degree is an asset

Experience:

  • At least five years of experience demanding technical expertise

Skills :

  • Experience in working with special collections found within libraries, archives and/or museums
  • Ability to work with close attention to details
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge
  • Good manual skill with the ability to concentrate on tasks that require careful handling of delicate materials
  • Skilled in digitization techniques and using an overhead book scanner
  • Photography skills is preferable
  • Good service mentality, interpersonal and communication skills
  • English preferred; Arabic skills required
