The overall theme of the PhD position is on the role of knowledge and changing planning paradigms within the socio-technical transformation of neighbourhoods towards positive energy districts, as both technical systems and urban contexts. The research is positioned between urban planning and the energy transition, with an angle on planning as social infrastructure, building communities, and the creation of new partnerships through positive energy solutions that lever the capacity at the neighbourhood and local scales. The PhD will collaborate on the activation of urban living labs with, a deliberative and participatory planning approach to open and inclusive positive energy solutions to understand the impact and barriers to the implementation of PED on various scales. The PhD research is on planning theories and methods that can include, integrate, and adapt technical energy solutions to support broader participation across urban processes for the energy transition. The PhD will work on two case studies enhancing novel ways to understand positive energy districts by building collaboratively new capacities and resources for planning reflexively the energy transition as an integral part of sustainable urban futures. The PhD will explore theoretical and methodological case studies and action research in urban planning with an angle on the energy transitions required by contemporary urban society.
