A postdoctoral position is available at The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM). The position is for 3 years with a start date of 1 January 2022, or upon agreement.

Job description
Genome instability and mitochondrial dysfunction are hallmarks of the aging process and age-associated neurodegenerative disorders. The Bohr research group has identified a signaling process linking persistent nuclear DNA damage response to mitochondrial dysfunction in human tissues and animals models of several human accelerated aging syndromes and neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimers disease.
The incumbent will be working on the interphase of DNA repair and mitochondrial dysfunction in aging age-related disease. Using human cells, mouse models and the worm, C.elegans, the goals are to further gain insight into mechanisms and pathways involved.

The University of Copenhagen encourages career development of its postdoctoral fellows and the position carries an obligation to conduct some undergraduate teaching and associated examinations within the Medical School.

Scientific environment
The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) offers an ambitious scientific environment, with many different nationalities represented. ICMM aims to produce research with high international impact focusing on the functional cell, its genetic components and molecular cellular mechanisms in a medical context. ICMM currently comprises five research programs, three high profile Research Centers as well as a number of international research groups. The scientists at ICMM are involved in high quality research based undergraduate and graduate teaching programs at the University of Copenhagen.

Required qualifications

Required qualifications:

• A PhD degree in biological or medical sciences is preferred.
• Experience in neuroscience or related area is preferred.
• Proven ability to present and publish research data.
• Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.

Terms of salary and employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
Currently, the monthly salary starts at DKK 31,065 / approx. EUR 4,169 (October 2021-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of December 2020.
