A two-year Post-Doctoral position is available at the University of Copenhagen starting 1st May 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter May/June 2021. The position is part of the BiodivERsA funded project “FutureArcticLives - Future Arctic livelihoods and biodiversity in a changing climate,” that will run from January 1st 2021 to January 1st 2024.
Information about the global development section and FutureArcticLives
The Post doc will be working in the Global Development Section in the Department of Food and Resource Economics at the University of Copenhagen, www.ifro.ku.dk . The section engages in inter-disciplinary research on economic, political, environmental, and institutional dynamics in low-income and Arctic countries. Research areas include issues of livelihoods, small-scale industry, trade, and labour; of climate change mitigation and adaptation; of forest and natural resource management; of resource conflicts and land grabbing; and of governance, state formation, and corruption. The global development section currently hosts 10 professors and associate professors, 4 assistant professors and Post-Doctoral researchers, and some 15 PhD students.
The Post Doc will be associated with the FutureArcticLives project under the supervision of Associate Professor Martin Reinhardt Nielsen and Professor Henrik Meilby. The Post Doc will examine the natural resource dependence of traditional hunters and fishermen in Greenland, assessing the likely household welfare impacts of climate change as an output of work package 1 of the FutureArcticLives project.

Job description
The Post Doc will be the core researcher in a work package aiming to quantify household reliance on natural resources through hunting and fishing in small communities along the coast of Greenland. The Post Doc will also develop future scenarios to assess the implications of climate change and the development in other sectors on household welfare. The study is envisioned to be based mainly on register data. The Post Doc will be responsible for acquiring, merging and managing databases, analysing and writing up scientific papers and reports. The Post Doc position will be based at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, but the candidate must expect to spend some time in Nuuk, Greenland, and be ready to collaborate with other work packages in the project focusing on Saami reindeer herding and small-scale fisheries in Sweden and Norway.
Qualifications
Applicants for the Post Doc position must have a PhD degree in development or environmental economics or related fields. Applicants should have experience and an up-to-date knowledge about data management and quantitative analysis, ideally in SAS. Experience with future scenario simulations and space-time modelling is an advantage. Similarly prior experience from the Arctic is an advantage. The candidate must document an ability to work independently and in collaboration with others, strong oral and written communication skills in English, high motivation, excellent analytical skills and the ability to write and publish high quality scientific papers.
