Postdoc Position in Immunoinformatics, Machine Learning and Proteomics

Updated: about 2 years ago
Deadline: 15 Feb 2022

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark (Associate Professor Veit Schwämmle and Assistant Professor Konrad Krawczyk) invite applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship within the field of Bioinformatics to be filled as soon as possible, earliest by 1 March 2022, for a period of one year, extendible for another year. Application deadline: 15 February 2022.

The selected candidate will develop a proof-of-concept framework for detecting antibody-derived peptide signatures in proteomics datasets. More specifically, the research project entails the analysis of millions of B-cell receptor sequences by machine learning to determine disease-specific antibody peptides that can be detected in proteomics datasets. These peptides will be confirmed by extensively re-searching public and in-house proteomics data. This project will start with data from COVID-19 related studies as the main use case.

Research environment
The Protein Research Group offers a strong international research environment in protein chemistry, biomolecular mass spectrometry and computational proteomics. Our computational proteomics efforts include the implementation of fully automated, reproducible state-of-the-art workflows, as well as the development of novel tools for statistical analysis, machine learning and quantitative functional proteomics.

The Computational Biology Group at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science  covers a range of multidisciplinary topics from biological data federation, genomics, network biology and immunoinformatics.

We are seeking outstanding candidates with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, who are strong in written and oral communication (in English) and have documented experience in machine learning (in particular deep learning) and bioinformatics. Expertise in handling and understanding protein mass spectrometry data is an advantage, but not a requirement. The successful candidate will participate in independent research projects and assist in the supervision of undergraduate students.

Place of work:
Protein Research Group (Associate  Professor Veit Schwämmle, [email protected] ), Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Computational Biology Group (Assistant Professor Konrad Krawczyk, [email protected] ), Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Department of Mathematics and Computer Science are both located at the main campus of the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark.
