A PhD studentship in synthetic and medicinal chemistry funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation is available at the Department of Chemistry at The Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The project will be under the supervision of Associate Professor Luca Laraia and will start on 1 September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will join a young research team working at the interface of chemistry and biology.
Project Description
One of the main goals of our research group is the identification of selective modulators of cholesterol transport proteins to study their basic biology and translational potential. The project will involve the synthesis of natural product-inspired libraries and analogues of bioactive compounds for the identification of new inhibitors of cholesterol transport proteins. The PhD project is in close collaboration with a protein biochemist post-doctoral researcher in the group who will perform biological screening and validation.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) in chemistry with prior experience in synthetic organic chemistry, including standard characterization methods. Experience in working with natural products or similarly complex molecules would be a significant advantage but is not essential. Most importantly, the candidate should be highly motivated, able to work independently and should be confident in both written and spoken English. The applicant should strive towards scientific excellence, be ambitious and hard working.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see the DTU PhD Guide .
