At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Computer Science, a stipend is available within the Computer Science study programme. The stipend is open for appointment at the earliest from November 1, 2020 or soon thereafter. The Department of Computer Science features a broad range of synergistic activities within research and education in the general area of computer science, including curiosity-driven research and targeted research in collaboration with industrial partners, as well as traditional university education, with a unique problem- and project-based focus, and continued education and knowledge dissemination.

Job description

We are looking for a PhD student for a stipend within human-computer interaction (HCI) research, more specifically regarding tangible interaction with personal informatics data. This includes, for example, health and activity data, but also IoT data from home devices. A particular focus of the project is on novel types of tangible and embodied interactive devices in a home context, such as using inflatables and shape-changing interfaces to provide ambient displays for fitness data. Another project goal is to support these ambient displays without requiring centralized infrastructure such as cloud services, to improve users' digital self-determination. The stipend will be part of the Human-Centered Computing groups activities within ubiquitous computing and decentralization.
You may obtain further information from Associate Professor Florian Echtler, Department of Computer Science, email: floech@cs.aau.dk concerning the scientific aspects of the stipend.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT and Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.
The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Technical Faculty of IT and Design will make a decision for allocating the stipend.
