Job description

Climate Econometrics:
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of this century, as shown by the inclusion of “Climate Action” in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. A recent report from the World Bank estimated that climate change could drag more than 100 million people into poverty by 2030. This threat calls for collaboration between multiple areas of human activity to confront it.
Climate econometrics is a fast growing area of research that uses modeling ideas developed to study economic and financial phenomena to analyze climate change. The area builds on econometric methods to improve our understanding of the interaction between human activity and climate change.
The PhD project:
Within the scope of Climate Econometrics as outlined above the PhD project aims to develop numerical and theoretical models to characterize the interaction between green finance and climate related risks.
Currently, more investment is needed for green transition technologies. As with all investments, risk plays a significant role in the decision process, and the misrepresentation of climate change risks can have severe consequences. Recently, the term green swan has been used to characterize the potentially yet unexpected extreme climate-related events that could be behind the next systemic financial crisis. The PhD will contribute to developing tools to measure financial risk due to climate change and avoid the green swan.
An application for the position must describe a PhD project that explicitly contributes to filling out a significant knowledge gap in research. The project description should include a clear and coherent description of a problem within climate econometrics research. The project must be feasible and organized in a PhD plan.
The position entails some teaching. Teaching at Aalborg University is guided by a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach. Experience with PBL teaching is a plus.
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master’s degree. They are normally for a period of 3 years.
Integrated PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who have not yet completed a Master’s degree and wish to begin the PhD study in connection with a Master’s study. Thus, a prerequisite is that the candidate is already enrolled in a relevant Master’s programme.
The integrated stipend consists of two parts, A and B. During part A you are enrolled simultaneous in the Master’s programme and in the PhD programme. The stipend consists of two SU-PhD Grants per month (SU=The Danish students’ Grants and Loans Scheme). One SU-PhD grant equals DKK 6397 (2022 level). SU-PhD Grants are paid for a maximum of two years. When the Master’s degree has been obtained, you will be employed for two years as a PhD fellow according to the present collective agreement. Part B has a maximum duration of two years.
It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.

  forecast models, stochastic trends, cointegration).
• Strong programming experience (e.g., Matlab, R, Julia, and/ or Python).
