PhD stipend in the molecular architecture of dopamine terminals

A time-limited 3-year PhD position at Department of Neuroscience is available as soon as possible. The aim of the project is to identify and map nanoscale architectural changes in presynaptic release sites of dopaminergic neurons that may underlie or arise from dopaminergic dysfunction by knock-down of disease susceptible genes.

The PhD student will work with characterization of the nanoscale architecture of the dopaminergic system in disease models elicited by knock-down of loss-of-function intolerant genes in the general population associated with neuropsychiatric diseases. The study will among other techniques use super-resolved fluorescence microscopy to resolve structures at a nanoscopic level, primary neuron culture work, viral expression techniques and advanced data analysis.

In connection with the appointment to the post, special importance will be attached to the applicant having the following professional and personal qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biomedicine, biotechnology or in an equivalent area
  • Experience with super-resolved fluorescence microscopy
  • Experience with molecular biology
  • Experience with immunocytochemistry and/or immunohistochemistry
  • Experience with mouse/rat brain dissection
  • Experience with advanced data analysis languages (Python, MATLAB)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Terms of employment

The position is offered for a period of three years as fulltime and the employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). In addition to research activities, the PhD candidate will be expected – during the period of the stipend – to acquire experience in teaching and/or other types of presentations.

It is conditioned upon the applicant’s success­ful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant.

The PhD study must be completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013) and the Faculty’s rules on achieving the degree. Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agree­ment between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The further process
