PhD Stipend in Statistics at the Department of Mathematical Sciences (17-22081)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Mathematical Sciences a PhD stipend is available within the doctoral programme Mathematics, Physics and Computational Science. The stipend is open for appointment from 01.02.2023 or soon thereafter. The Department of Mathematical Sciences conducts research in a wide range of mathematical disciplines and has three study programmes: mathematics (including a specialization in statistics at the master level), mathematical economics, and mathematics-technology. The department offers an international and informal working environment. The department is proud of its long tradition for good social relations and collaboration among colleagues. Employees at the department have great opportunities to shape the direction of their professional activities. For more information about the department, please see Department of Mathematical Sciences: https://www.math.aau.dk/english

Job description

The project aims at using new statistical learning methodology for applications in wireless communications. To that end the PhD student will work with Associate Professor Christophe A.N. Biscio, in collaboration with Professor Petar Popovski from the Connectivity Section at the Department of Electronic Systems.

The position is available for a candidate who has knowledge and competencies in both mathematical statistics and engineering. In particular, an understanding of spatial statistics of point processes and random fields is an advantage. Moreover, the candidate must be highly motivated by inter-disciplinary research. Although the scientific content would be mainly in mathematics, the candidate will be expected to work on the engineering application of its work to wireless communication systems. In that sense, knowledge in information theory and/or signal processing is also considered an advantage.

Qualification requirements:

The PhD stipend has a duration of three years. Applicants to the PhD scholarship must hold a degree equivalent to a Danish Master's degree. Applicants enrolled at a Danish Master program who expect to graduate before the appointment date must forward a statement from the thesis supervisor, verified transcripts, a copy of the thesis contract, and documentation for the date of their final exam.

Please find information on admission requirements for PhD positions on the website of the Doctoral School.

Online application - some good advice

Aalborg University uses an electronic recruitment system for receiving applications. Towards the bottom in the respective job advertisement you will find a link, which you need to use when applying for the position. Before uploading your application it is important that you have all relevant documentation ready in a Word or PDF format, as you need to upload all material at the same time. You cannot leave the application and return to it a couple of hours later without having to start over.

The system does not support ZIP or images files. Filenames can only contain numbers and letters, and each document must take up no more than 20 MB.
If you experience technical problems, we encourage you to try again. If the technical problems, contrary to expectation, cannot be solved, please contact the member of staff listed as the contact person in the job advertisement.
