A PhD stipend is available at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment within the doctoral programme Civil Engineering. The stipend is open for appointment from 1 April 2023. The position is located in Copenhagen.


Job description
We are looking for a research fellow in the field of lighting design and/or universal design. The PhD project will focus on developing design methods that acknowledge the diverse and changing needs for the population 55+ experiencing incipient vision loss. The PhD position is situated as part of a research project assessing and developing approaches from low vision rehabilitation to be used in housing research and the role of lighting when vision changes and the target group of 55+. The PhD project will centre around methodologies that can help unfold and operationalise user needs and abilities regarding domestic lighting and develop approaches and design solutions suitable for people challenged by visual impairment. Within this framework, the PhD project will address the transition of the methods in the context of lighting design.
The application should include a 3-5 pages’ project proposal for the PhD project that includes a research question, aims and objectives, research design, methodology, expected research contribution and an overall draft of the work plan for the three-year period.

The PhD stipend can be allocated to individuals who hold a relevant Master's degree, or its equivalent. However, due to the nature of fieldwork and the collaboration with stakeholders and participants, Danish or Nordic language skills are of high relevance to this position.
The PhD stipend is for a period of 3 years, and it is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time. Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment.

Agreement

Appointment and salary as a PhD fellow are according to the Ministry of Finance Circular of 15 December 2021 on the Collective Agreement for Academics in Denmark, Appendix 5, regarding PhD fellows, and with the current Circular of 11 December 2019 on the employment structure at Danish universities.
