Updated: 10 months ago
Deadline: 915-23041

The PhD position is one of the 9 PhD and 5 postdoc positions in the 2023CAPeX PhD and Postdoc cohort call. CAPeX is a 13-year and 300 MDKKPioneer Center forAccelerating P2X Materials Discovery, funded by Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, the Danish National Research Foundation, the Carlsberg Foundation, the Lundbeck Foundation, the Novo Nordisk Foundation, and the Villum Foundation. CAPeX is hosted by the Technical University of Denmark(DTU) and co-hosted by Aalborg University(AAU), and unites leading experts from DTU, AAU, University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, and the University of Southern Denmark with international partners from Stanford University, Utrecht University, and the University of Toronto to form a truly Pioneering Center on P2X. Project description
The project will demonstrate fabrication of catalysts on wafers with a diameter of 100 mm using industrial process equipment. Silicon wafers will form the basic substate for synthesis of nanowires(NW) with a high surface to volume ratio. Formation of nanowires through a dry-etching process offers wide possibilities for engineering geometrical structures of individual NWs as well as their arrangements in arrays. The catalytic properties of Si NWs will be designed by surface coatings and decoration with metal nanoparticles. Metals from the Pt group form good starting points as their catalytic properties in the form of nanoparticles on flat surfaces are well studied. The phase and crystallography of samples will be characterized by XRD. The morphology of samples will be examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM/FIB/EDX).

Experience developed with such systems forms an excellent basis for test of new materials combinations developed by other groups in the CAPeX project.

Further information
You may obtain further information from Professor Kjeld Pedersen, Department of Materials and Production, phone: 99409220, email:[email protected] , concerning the scientific aspects of the stipend.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.

For further information about stipends and salary as well as practical issues concerning the application procedure contact Ms. Ruth Klitte, The Doctoral School at The Faculty of Engineering and Science, email:[email protected]
