At The Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Computer Science, a stipend is available within the Computer Science study programme. The stipend is open for appointment at the earliest from September 1, 2020 or soon thereafter.


Job description

We are looking for a PhD student for a stipend within human-computer interaction (HCI) research and more specifically within data and digital technologies for promoting sustainable behavior in communities. The project will involve the design and evaluation of a number of digital prototypes in order to explore how various kinds of data can be used to promote or maintain sustainable behavior, and the student will as part of the project choose and select one or more domains where this can be studied. This could for example, include energy consumption or waste sorting. The project will involve design and programming of digital prototypes as well as evaluation and in-situ studies of these prototypes. The user studies should integrate different techniques such as interviews and/or observations. The stipend will be part of the Human-Centered Computing groups activities within sustainability and HCI, and the research will contribute towards the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDG).

Requirements:
Applicants must have a master's degree in interaction design, software engineering, computer science or closely related fields with very good grades. Skills within interaction design and user studies are essential, as well as good programming and communication skills. Speaking and writing Danish is a requirement as the user studies will be conducted in Denmark. Knowledge in relation to the research topics mentioned above is highly desirable.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT adn Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress report is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Technical Faculty of IT and Design will make a decision for allocating the stipend.

Agreement

Appointment and salary as a PhD fellow are according to the Ministry of Finance Circular of June 28, 2019 on the Collective Agreement for Academics in Denmark, Appendix 5, regarding PhD fellows, and with the Ministry of Finance current circular on the employment structure at Danish Universities.
