The Department of Planning conducts research and teaching on development and planning in a broad sense, including social science aspects as well as more technical aspects of development, and with a focus on environmental, international as well as administrative dimensions.

Job description

The PhD project is part of a collaboration between Aalborg Portland and Aalborg University regarding circular economy and industrial symbiosis related to cement production. Aalborg Portland is committed to reducing its emissions and energy consumption to meet internal objectives and contribute to the ambitious climate targets set by the Danish government. A continued production of cement in Denmark requires a reduction of the carbon footprint of cement and to further unfold the potentials of a closer collaboration and partnerships with external partners, society and local community about delivering climate friendly solutions and information.

The project will contribute to executing the sustainability and climate strategy of Aalborg Portland by supporting the transformation of the cement production towards sustainability and CO2 neutrality via developing existing and new synergies and forms of circular economy by investigating proactively how strategic collaboration can maximize CO2 reduction and energy consumption in Aalborg Portland’s production and value chain. This will include strengthening existing partnerships and extending to potential partners and begin initial dialogue also including an analysis of the potentials of carbon capture, storage and utilization (CCS/U), heat recovery and local symbioses and also by creating an overview of technologies and stakeholders for CCS/CCU and review the effect of this on the synergies.

The PhD project is part of MADE - Manufacturing Academy of Denmark that is the Danish national innovation and research platform for the manufacturing industry in Denmark. MADE supports and strengthens the manufacturing industry in Denmark through implementation of state-of-the-art manufacturing technology via applied industrial research projects and a range of various innovation activities and educational initiatives.
