Apply no later than 26 July 2017
Apply for the job at DTU Bioengineering by completing the following form.
A 3-year PhD position is available in the section for Protein Science & Signaling Biology at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering).
The successful applicant will work within the newly established research group ‘Protease Degradomics’ headed by Professor Ulrich auf dem Keller and funded by a Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) Young Investigator Award.
In our research group, we apply and develop advanced positional proteomics workflows to identify proteases, elucidate their interactions and determine their substrates in inflammation, repair and regeneration. With a major focus on the skin, we aim at elucidating interdependent proteolytic pathways and their disturbance in disease to provide a basis for the development of novel strategies for diagnostics and therapeutic intervention.
Responsibilities and tasks
The PhD student will work with a team of postdocs and PhD students and in close collaboration with the DTU Proteomics Core Facility to elucidate interconnected activation networks of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in normal and wounded skin. The PhD candidate will establish highly specific and sensitive parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) assays for a panel of MMPs and analyze their interdependent activation in skin cell culture models and genetically modified animals. The ideal candidate for this challenging project has skills in targeted proteomics, tissue culture techniques, sample preparation, animal experimentation and proteomics data interpretation. Moreover, the PhD student is expected to contribute to operation and daily maintenance of Thermo Orbitrap instruments available in the DTU Proteomics Core Facility.
Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide .
The assessment of the applicants will be made by Professor Ulrich auf dem Keller.
