You will be part of the Research group for Gut, Microbes and Health at The National Food Institute at The Technical University of Denmark. We offer an ambitious, dynamic and sociable research environment with lots of exiting challenges and opportunities.
The position is affiliated to the project PRIMA (Personalized dietary Recommendations based on the Interaction between diet, Microbiome and Abiotic conditions in the gut) funded by the Challenge Programme under the Novo Nordisk Foundation. This project is a cross-disciplinary effort involving top research environments in Denmark and Belgium. The overall aim of the project is to develop personal and improved dietary recommendations based on knowledge about the intestinal environment in a given individual.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The PhD project will focus on rodent models that elucidate effect of specific diets and intestinal conditions on the composition and metabolic activities of the gut microbiota.
Candidates are expected to have interest and knowledge within intestinal microbiology and ecology. You need to be ambitious, highly motivated, and capable of working independently, and to have good skills within written and spoken English.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience within one or more of the following areas:
- sequence-based analysis of bacterial communities, including bioinformatics
- bacterial physiologic and metabolic responses to environmental factors
- animal experimentation
You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
Anticipated starting date is August 1st, 2022 or shortly thereafter. The position is a full-time position.
