PhD scholarship in Digital Design and Manufacturing

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

We are searching for a strong PhD candidate within the area of Digital Design and Manufacturing. You will have a unique opportunity to work and do research in a strong collaboration between KK Wind Solutions and the Technical University of Denmark.

Building on more than 40 years of experience in electronic systems for wind, KK Wind Solutions’ capabilities span development of state-of-the-art technologies, LEAN production facilities and an effective, global setup for operation and maintenance. KK Wind Solutions has global presence in the field and is thereby providing hands-on experience to provide solutions that improve customer’s business and contribute to the ultimate goal: lowering the Cost of Energy.

The PhD project will address a number of very business critical areas such as reducing the time to launch new wind turbine control systems, reducing cost of new solutions and enable increased innovation. Key aspect will be the ability to define both product and manufacturing digitally by state of the art design and manufacturing software. This will e.g. enable digital test and verification, faster transition to manufacturing and ability to simulate key performance (e.g. cost, quality and lead time) in the early stages of development.

The position will give you an exceptional opportunity to work both practically and theoretically in such a way that you will see concrete solutions being implemented in KK Wind Solutions.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Responsibilities

  • Identify key state of the art software packages relevant for wind turbine control design and manufacturing.
  • Establish digital product models
  • Establish digital manufacturing models
  • Establish property models in such a way the key properties can be simulated, e.g. cost, lead time and quality including considerations towards sustainability
  • Test the digital design models in customer and R&D projects
  • Support the implementation in KK Wind Solutions including education and training
  • Implement architectures in commercial available IT systems such as ERP, CAD, PDM, Models based system engineering and manufacturing and Supply Chain simulation systems.

Qualifications

  • An engineering educational background within digital Design, Manufacturing engineering and operational manufacturing with top results
  • Deep understanding of the interplay between design and manufacturing in relation to cost, lead time, manufacturing efficiency and quality
  • Ability to work very systematically and visually
  • Ability to be present at all relevant KK Wind Solutions sites globally (currently Denmark, Poland and India)
  • Knowledge of electro mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of commercially available IT systems such as CAD, PDM, ERP and manufacturing simulation
  • Ability to work cross disciplinary across e.g. manufacturing engineering, design, finance and operation

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
