PhD Position in Social Network Analysis of NAFA as Knowledge Ecology

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark (Campus Odense) in collaboration with University College Syd (UC SYD) and Naturfagsakademiet (NAFA) invites applications for one PhD scholarship in Social Network Analysis of Naturfagsakademiet as Knowledge Ecology. The successful applicant will become part of the Centre of Excellence in Science Education (CESE), as well as Research Centre for Science Education and Communication (FNUG), and if relevant will be affiliated to Laboratory for STEM Educa tion and Learning (LSUL).

The proposed starting date is 1 May 2023, or soon thereafter. The appointment will be made for a term of three years and will follow the PhD study programme at the Faculty of Science and have an enrolment in the Science and Mathematics Education and Communication Research Training Programme (SMEC).

The ideal candidate must be able to speak and understand Danish and has a background in or experience with one or more of the following topics:

  • Research on Social Network Analyses and Knowledge Ecologies
  • Research on Professional Learning Communities in Science Education
  • Science Education, including STEM and other interdisciplinary approaches
  • Qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Quality assessment, surveys and tests
  • Pragmatist and practice-oriented research methodologies
  • Science and Technology Studies.
The successful candidate will formulate his or her own research project to fit into and compliment the ongoing research of the strategic research project LAVIN ‘Længdestudie af videnøkologi i NAFA’ lead by Professor Connie Svabo (SDU) and Docent Thomas Albrechtsen (UC SYD). The LAVIN project researches how knowledge is created, flows, is anchored and shared in the Science Education Professional Learning Communities in the research and practice programme Naturfagsakademiet. The job application should contain a three-page-description of a clearly delineated subproject that will contribute to the overall project. The PhD project will form part of the LAVIN project and be guided by this inquiry. The project will contribute to LAVIN by carrying out a Social Network Analysis of the NAFA Knowledge Ecology. The project will involve collaboration with an assistant professor and the two project leaders and principal investigators.

The applicant is expected to hold a relevant Master’s degree in Pedagogy or Education Studies or have other qualifications that provide a sufficient level of knowledge to carry out educational research with a focus on systemic capacity building.
