The National Center of Excellence for the Molecular Prediction of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (PREDICT) is looking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated PhD student to join our international and interdisciplinary group of dedicated researchers at Department of Clinical Medicine, Aalborg University, Campus Copenhagen. About the Center for Molecular Prediction of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (PREDICT). The purpose of PREDICT is to study the cause and prognosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which are chronic and disabling diseases affecting millions of people worldwide. PREDICT is a diverse, national, and interdisciplinary collaboration between six partner institutions located at Aalborg University, Aalborg University Hospital, Statens Serum Institut, University of Copenhagen, and Mental Health Services of the Capital Region of Denmark. Principal investigators include clinicians, data scientists and basic scientists. In addition to national partnerships, PREDICT also has strong international collaborations with, among others, Harvard Medical School, Mount Sinai NY, University of California, Imperial College London, and Sorbonne.


Job description

The PhD project involves infectious disease- and pharmaco-epidemiological research of SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination in patients with IBD. The project aims to explore outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination in patients with IBD and other immune-mediated diseases at the national level. As a PhD student you will be working closely with the Center’s interdisciplinary group of scientists to perform forefront, international research. You will be responsible for literature search, research protocol development, statistical analysis, writing of scientific papers, and presentation of your work at national and international meetings. You will work with basic and data scientists, and clinicians who will also support you in the development of these skills.

Qualifications
We are looking for a self-motivated candidate with a keen interest in infection and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. The candidate will ideally have previous experience in infectious disease or pharmaco-epidemiology research.

The ideal candidate has:

  • a degree in Medicine (cand.med.) or a Master's degree in Biomedicine, Public Health, Epidemiology or other relevant field
  • experience with epidemiological research and an ambition to specialize in infectious disease, inflammatory disease and pharmaco-epidemiological methods
  • experience with statistical software programming (e.g., R, Stata, or SAS)
  • experience in writing scientific papers
  • excellent collaborative and teamworking skills
  • excellent writing and communication skills in English is essential
  • excellent writing and communication skills in Danish is preferable

Terms of employment
The PhD program will run for 3 years. Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics. PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School in Medicine, Biomedical Science and Technology in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.

Agreement
