Department of Neuroscience
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
We are offering a PhD fellowship in sleep neurophysiology commencing March 2020.
Our group and research
The Kornum Lab explores sleep biology in health and disease. Our focus is to understand sleep-wake neurophysiology and how the immune system affects the sleep regulating networks of the brain. We are particularly interested in the hypocretin/orexin neurons, their signaling, and their involvement in the sleep disorder narcolepsy and in sleep-wake regulation during sickness in general. More information about the group can be found at our lab site www.molecularsleeplab.dk and at the department webpage https://in.ku.dk/
The overall aim of the project is to determine how hypocretin neurons respond to immune activation under the influence of external challenges to the system. This particular PhD project will focus on the influence of light and how seasonal changes in light levels might influence the sickness response. The PhD-student will work with transgenic mouse models, behavioural assessment of the sickness response and possibly also electrophysiological recordings of sleep-wake stages. The PhD-student will also perform different analysis of brain tissue from mice such as immunohistochemistry.
