A 3-year PhD position is available within the research group ‘Biotherapeutic Glycoengineering and Immunology’ headed by Professor Steffen Goletz funded by a NNF grant. Our young and rapidly growing research group belongs to the Section of Protein Science and Biotherapeutics at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine. The position will be available from August 2021 or soon thereafter.
In our research group, we apply and develop advanced next generation antibody engineering and glycoengineering technologies to elucidate the role of glycosylations for and within complex immunological networks, microbiome and disease and use these for identifying novel drug targets and generating novel drug candidates and therapeutic strategies. Our main therapeutic interest is within bacterial and viral gastrointestinal and lung diseases as well as a strong focus on immunooncology. Our focus lies within next generation antibody engineering with multimodal antibody constructs, phage display technologies, molecular and cellular glycoengineering, and mammalian bioprocess engineering as well as glycoimmunology, microbiome glycoengineering, glycomic and glycomimetic display systems. We also have a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The PhD student will work with a team of Senior scientists, postdocs and PhD students and in close collaboration with national and international collaborators to establish a platform of next generation glycoengineered biotherapeutics with the focus on creating a novel biomanufacturing platform for faster and highly reproducible biomanufacturing of bispecific antibody therapeutics.
The ideal candidate for this challenging project is highly motivated and has skills in bioprocessing and bioreactor handling for mammalian cell production as well as practical experience in gene editing, protein purification and analysis, as well as molecular biology. Knowledge and skills in antibody engineering and proteomics would be of advantage. Moreover, the PhD student is expected to contribute to inter connective team tasks.
Candidates should have a master's degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, protein chemistry, , molecular biology, biology, cell biology or alike.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programs of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide .
The assessment of the applicants will be made by Professor Steffen Goletz.
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice.
