PhD position in behaivoral neuroscience and role of mitochondria dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseasses at BRIC

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD studentto join our team in field of mitochondrial dysfunction and its role in controlling neurodegeneration and behaivor research to commence autumn 2022.

Our research
Our team is interested to understand molecular pathways by which mitochondrial dysfunction contribute to neurodegeneration and behaivor outcome in particular during inflammatory processes of central nervous system like in Parkinson’s disease.

Your job
You will join a multi-disciplinary research team but you will work independently with capacity and previous documented master thesis experience in related field. Your tasks will include; performing behaivoral studies and experiments in vivo models of neurodegeneration and inflammatory diseases. Previous work during bachelor and/or master thesis with mitochondrial biology and behaivoral sciences. The candidate is required to have documented experience with cellular and molecular immunology techniques such as Western blotting qPCR etc. You should be able to establish/utilize multiple techniques to assess mitochondrial functions such as seahorse technique, oxidative stress, mitochondrial DNA damage responses composed of molecular biology, biochemical techniques, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry and imaging techniques (including confocal).

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with interest or track-record in the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills

• You have a MSc. in neurodegeneration / neuroimmunology not older than two years
• You have documented experience in technologies related to mitophagy, mitochondrial functions and mitochondrial DNA biology
• You have FELASA licence and experience working with rodents, autoimmune/brain inflammatory models and/or behaivor
• Good English skills, written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills

• Experience and knowledge in analysis of tissue inflammatory/autoimmune and neurodegenerative disease models, in vivo rodent models, histopathology, mitochondrial homeostasis and mitophagy, microscopy and imaging, imaging analysis (FIJI, Slidebook, Amira) and protein biochemistry

Terms of salary and employment
The employment as PhD Fellow is a full time (37 working hours) and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is October 1st, 2022. The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 28,365.85 DKK / approx. 3.813 Euro (April 2022-level). The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The position is covered by the 'Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities of December 11, 2019'.
