Applicants are invited for a PhD fellowship/scholarship at Graduate School of Technical Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Electrical and Computer Engineering programme. The position is available from 1 October 2022 or later.

High-performance low-power analog front-end CMOS chip design

Research area and project description:

The Ph.D. project will focus on design of a high performance analog front-end a for IoT applications. A key objective of this project is the development of a very low-noise AFE and high performance analog to digital converter for very low-power IoT systems.

As part of the project, highly innovative circuits and systems solutions will be developed using advanced CMOS technologies, as well as supporting sub-systems to be developed, measured, verified, and published in top international journals and conferences in the field.

Qualifications and specific competences:

We are looking for highly motivated and independent students willing to take the challenge to do a successful 3-year PhD programme in Aarhus University. The design will be tape-out in nanoscale CMOS technologies. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team of people from different fields, and in close collaboration with industry partners.

The ideal candidate will have the following profile (but not all items are required for a successful application): 

  • Relevant Master’s degree (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering). 
  • Excellent undergraduate and master degree grades are required. 
  • Background on IC design, especially on power management unit is highly desired, but candidates from other disciplines will be considered based on their merits and potential. 
  • Gain a thorough understanding of low-power design challenges (Amplifiers, Filters, Bias generators, etc.) in CMOS technology 
  • Background on ADC design is required. 
  • Background on linear algebra, mathematics and statistics is desired. 
  • Experience on Cadence software is desired. 
  • Good English verbal and written skills are required.
