Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (SUND)
University of Copenhagen
We are offering a three-year PhD fellowship in Drug Modification by Conjugation Approaches. The PhD fellowship is financed by Independent Research Fund Denmark. The fellowship is available from 31 December 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The PhD project is entitled 'Exploration of efflux pump inhibitor conjugates via Trojan-horse
and shuttle approaches'. The project involves design and synthesis of novel conjugates based on known efflux pump inhibitors. Three modification principles will be explored for improving bacterial uptake, while minimizing toxicity toward mammalian cells. The biological evaluation of conjugates will be performed by collaborators.
The medicinal chemistry studies comprise exploration of different conjugation methods as well as structure-activity studies of delivery moieties. Experience in preparative organic synthesis and chromatographic methods is required. A candidate with experience within drug conjugation and/or peptide chemistry (e.g. manual and automated solid-phase synthesis) and relevant analytical methods (NMR, HPLC and MALDI-TOF) is preferred.
