PhD fellowship in Community Dentistry

We are offering a PhD fellowship in Community Dentistry, Section of Oral Health, Society and Technology, commencing 1st December 2021 or as soon as possible.

The candidate will work in the field of Community Dentistry and Public Health.

The position is as a general rule full-time time (37 hours/week) and employment is for a 3-year period.

Project/Scientific area of research

The research project is in collaboration between Department of Odontology and Copenhagen Centre for Health Research in the Humanities (The Saxo Institute, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen). Further, Frederiksberg and Greve municipalities will be close collaborators in the project.

The aim of the project is to investigate barriers and facilitators of good oral health in fragile elderly persons using qualitative methodology and to develop initiatives for improving oral health in a co-creational process.

Supervision

The project will be carried out under the supervision of:

  • Main supervisor: Associate professor Esben Øzhayat, Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
  • Co-supervisor: Associate professor Tenna Jensen, Copenhagen Centre for Health Research in the Humanities, The Saxo Institute, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen.

Qualifications

The candidate must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s degree (equivalent of the Danish candidate, 3+2 years) and have experience with qualitative research. Furthermore, a good knowledge of Danish is a prerequisite, as the position entails communication and interviews with participants in Danish.

Candidates with research experience and knowledge in the field of qualitative health research and elderly care are preferred.

Terms of employment

The employment is for a 3-year period. A stipend will cover the salary and tuition fee for the 3-year period.

It is conditioned upon the applicant’s success­ful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant

The PhD study must be completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013) and the Faculty’s rules on achieving the degree. Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agree­ment between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary begins around 27.788 DKK /approx. 3.736 EUR (April 2021-level) plus pension.

The further process
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the hiring committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an unbiased assessor.

The assessor makes a non-prioritized assessment of the academic qualifications and experience with respect to the above-mentioned area of research, techniques, skills and other requirements listed in the advertisement.

Once the assessment work has been completed each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.

The applicant will be assessed according to the Ministerial Order no. 242 of 13 March 2012 on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.

Candidates who are already enrolled as PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences cannot apply for this position.
