Department of Biology, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in DNA repair and genome stability commencing 1.11.2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment
The Section for Functional Genomics at the Department of Biology provides a strong, international environment for research in the field of Genetics and Genomics located at Copenhagen Biocenter, Ole Maaløes Vej 5, Copenhagen N. The Section currently employs 12 principal investigators, 5 technicians, 12 post docs, 25 PhD students as well as a number of undergraduate students.
Genome integrity is critically dependent on DNA repair mechanisms of the cell, because the genetic material of the cell is constantly damaged by physical and chemical insults. If DNA lesions are not repaired properly in a timely fashion, they can lead to mutations, which is the underlying cause of both cancer, cellular ageing, and a number of developmental disorders. The aim of the PhD project is to study the role of the ZGRF1 helicase in DNA repair including its regulation by protein post-translational modifications (PTMs), cellular localization, protein-protein interactions and unique DNA structures that are recognized by the helicase.
