The Department of Pharmacy, under the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a postdoc position, for a period of two years, starting from 1 April 2021.

The Department of Pharmacy plays a key role in advancing the pharmaceutical sciences in Denmark and internationally. It is devoted to research and research-based teaching in drug formulation and manufacturing, drug-related analytical and physical chemistry, drug metabolism, chemical toxicolog and medicines use. The scientific and teaching objectives of the Department encompass the areas of Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biopharmaceuticals/Biologics, Pharmaceutical Technology and Engineering; Pharmaceutical Design and Drug Delivery and Clinical and Social Pharmacy.

Job description

Proteins and in particular antibodies are versatile and highly potent drug candidates and account for a rapidly growing number of new drugs in development. Specialized analytical tools are needed to characterize these large and complex biomolecules. In the Protein Analysis Group, we use mass spectrometry (MS), a highly sensitive technology, to characterize the structure of proteins of pharmaceutical interest and study the interaction of proteins with drugs.

The major aim of the postdoc project is to implement and advance the use of hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) technology to study the interaction between antibody drugs and their antigens. In particular, the project will focus on developing and implementing a robust online HDX-MS workflow for mapping antibody binding epitopes on antigen targets of high complexity.

The postdoc is being employed in the Protein Analysis Group of the Department of Pharmacy with the aim of achieving this goal and the project will be carried out in close collaboration with Roche and will include some short-term (2-3 week) research stays at Roche, Penzberg, Germany.

Qualifications required

The successful applicants will be experimentally oriented scientists who can document original scientific production in the areas of hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry, protein chemistry, biochemistry and liquid chromatography/microfluidics coupled to mass spectrometry. Also, the project is highly collaborative and applicants with experience in working at the interface between academic and industrial research will be preferred.
