PhD fellowship in Carbohydrate Chemistry and Biomass Conversion
PhD Project in Carbohydrate Chemistry
Department of Chemistry
Faculty of SCIENCE
University of Copenhagen

Department of Chemistry invites applicants for a PhD fellowship in carbohydrate chemistry and biomss conversion. The project is part of the research project “From Waste to Value: Green Chemicals from Biomass”, which is financed by Independent Research Fund Denmark

Start date is (expected to be) 1st January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The project
The candidate will undertake an independent research project within carbohydrate chemistry and biomass converison. Conversion of abundant biomass, like carbohydrates, in a selective and high yielding way is a tremendous task. In this project we will develop methods for transforming the most common biomolecule, glucose, into furane derivatives with industrial relevance.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates within the field of synthetic organic chemistry, with a strong interest in carbohydrates in in particular biomass conversion and monosaccharide chemistry. Applicants must have a background with experience in synthetic organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and a strong interest in synthesis.

Our group and research- and what do we offer?
We are a leading research group in the field of carbohydrate chemistry working within organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry.

The group is a part of Department of Chemistry, Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. We are located in Copenhagen.

We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include laboratories and all relevant equipement for characterisation.
