Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 31 Jan 2022

The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (Chengdu, Sichuan, China) seeks candidates for post-doctoral research positions. The successful applicants will conduct the synthesis/fabrication of nanostructures for a variety of applications in nano-optics and energy conversion in an international research environment. The research projects will tackle the synthesis of shape-controlled plasmonic nanomaterials/nanohybrids and/or the fabrication of films with nanoantennas arrays for solar to chemical energy conversion, including applications in photocatalysis, photoelectrocatalysis, and devices for chemical processes exploiting plasmonic local heating at the nanoscale. The candidates will be responsible for the design, the realization, and the catalytic testing of advanced nanomaterials. The post-doctoral researchers will be supervised by Prof. Alberto Naldoni, (UESTC, Chengdu, Sichuan, China and Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute–CATRIN–Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials–RCPTM–of Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic). The research will be highly collaborative and conducted at two locations: UESTC (Chengdu, Sichuan, China) and Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic). This position involves a strong cooperation with the Institute of Fundamental and Frontier Sciences (IFFS) in Chengdu, led by Prof. Zhiming Wang and it will include a tight collaboration with the theoretical group of Prof. Alexander Govorov (Ohio University, USA).

Prof. Alberto Naldoni focuses on the use of nanomaterials for enhancing light absorption and charge separation in inorganic nanomaterials to enable the sustainable production of solar fuels and chemicals. He studies the optical and photochemical properties of both well-defined nanocrystals in solution and periodic arrays of nanoantennas on thin films. The topics of his research include plasmonic nanostructures, hot electrons, plasmonic photothermal phenomena, hybrid nanoscale systems, surface photochemistry, and nanoscale systems for energy conversion including synthesis of solar fuels and chemicals, devices for solar desalination, electrodes for enhanced (photo)electrocatalytic processes. His group is currently involved in the study of nanomaterials for solar energy conversion from the single particle level to the realization of large-scale demonstration devices.

The annual salary for the position is in the range of ¥ 200,000-480,000, depending on the applicant’s records. Additional bonuses for specific achievements will be provided.

Candidates should be highly motivated and have a strong background in nanophotonics, photocatalysis, materials science, chemical engineering, physical chemistry, and nanomaterials. Commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds is required. The position has an initial duration of two years, but may be extended up to three years, depending on performance and funding. To apply for the position, send an e-mail in English to Prof. Alberto Naldoni ([email protected] ) with a cover letter and a full Curriculum Vitae.

Prof. Alberto Naldoni is the co-leader of the Photoelectrochemistry group at CATRIN–RCPTM of Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic, and a Sichuan Province Foreign Expert at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in Chengdu, China. He is the author of more than 70 papers on photocatalysis, plasmonics, photoelectrocatalysis published in high impact journals such as Science, Adv. Mater, JACS, Nano Lett., ACS Catal., and Angew. Chem.

Prof. Zhiming Wang is a Professor of the National 1000-Talents Program, Journal Editor-in-Chief of Nanoscale Research Letters, and the Director of the IFFS at UESTC in Chengdu.
