PhD study position – Soil ecology at the Faculty of Science

Soil ecology group at the Department of Ecosystem Biology Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Czech Republic is looking for a Ph.D. student of soil ecology to work on a new grant supported project. 


The aims of the project are to evaluate links among stoichiometry of carbon and nutrients in microbe-soil-water system across a network of small-forested catchments. The specific goal is to determine and quantify the role of microbes in nutrient retention. We are looking for motivated student with a background in (soil) ecology or molecular biology (microbiology), experienced in statistics, with good English communication skills (including written). You will be responsible for soil-microbial analyses as well as laboratory experiments with stable isotope 15N in temperate forest soils. You will combine the results with microbial community structure data and chemistry of inputs, soils and streams.


Needed education: MSc.

Standard length of doctoral studies: 4 years (incl. 3 month study residency abroad)
