PhD Studentship in Greek Classical Reception in the Early Modern Period

The Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Cyprus invites applications for a Fully-Funded, Four-year PhD Scholarship on the broad area of Greek Classical Reception in the Early Modern Period (15th -17th  centuries). Applications are welcome from the areas of Book History, History of Ideas, Classics, History of Scholarship, Reformation History. 

The successful applicant with join the research project GrECI (Greek heritage in European Culture and Identity), funded by the European Research Council (HORIZON-WIDERA-2021ACCESS call, 101079379), for which the University of Cyprus is the Coordinator (Dr Natasha Constantinidou). The successful candidate will also benefit from the collaboration with the University of Oslo (Prof. Han Lames, UiO, Norway) and Université Franche-Comté (Prof. Marie Barral-Baron UFC, France). 

The project team will meet regularly, both virtually and physically, and will be committed to the well-being and career development of all our members.

The Studentship provides students with Full Fees, Stipend, and a Research Allowance for the Four-year PhD programme.

Requirements and Terms

  • MA/MPhil in a relevant subject area
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, as well as reading knowledge of the sources languages relevant for the project.
  • The PhD Studentship provides an Annual Stipend for Four-years; Full Fees; A Research Allowance.
  • The continuation of the Studentship for the second and subsequent years is dependent on satisfactory performance within the PhD programme and the achievement of the relevant milestones.
  • This Studentship will be awarded only to those who are Full-time students and who will engage in Full-time in study.

  • Copy (scan) of Postgraduate Degree
  • Copy (scan) and Grade of Undergraduate University Degree.

A transcript and a detailed list of the courses taken by the candidate at the Undergraduate and MA levels

  • Two Letters of Reference
  • The candidate’s MA Thesis
  • Certificates of Language competency of one of the International Languages of Byzantine/Medieval Studies (English, French, German, Italian and Russian).
