PhD in Environmental Health

Updated: over 2 years ago
Job Type: Temporary
Deadline: 15 Nov 2021

One (1) PhD position is available in the research group of the Water and Health Laboratory of the Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health at the Cyprus University of Technology. The successful candidate will be trained on key thematic concepts of the human exposome, i.e. the holistic representation of all those environmental, dietary, lifestyle/behavioral factors that relate to the development of chronic diseases with special emphasis on hormonal cancers or endocrine disorders. The PhD student will apply the framework of the exposome and related exposomic tools (metabolomics) in either an observational or experimental setting. The study of all human exposures to harmful agents found in water, air, diet or behavioral/lifestyle habits and their health effects requires the combined use of novel human biomonitoring and biostatistical methods. The successful candidate will be trained on the use of either state-of-the-art human biomonitoring protocols, personal sensors or novel processing bioinformatics platforms (e.g. metabolomics) for better understanding of the disease process. Our laboratory is equipped with advanced mass spectrometers to conduct specialized analyses in human biospecimen and it is located in the old town of Limassol, just minutes away from the cosmopolitan Mediterranean seafront. The Cyprus University of Technology has been included among the Top 500-600 best universities in the world, based on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 and is also ranked 54 in the global list of the Young University rankings.
