We are looking for a Research Officer, to join the Flight Research Laboratory (FRL) within the Aerospace Research Centre. The successful Research Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Aerospace Research Centre is expanding its research and development capabilities in aviation battery systems in support of sustainable aviation through the Low Emission Aviation Program (LEAP), including battery-electric storage systems, high-voltage aircraft systems, hydrogen electric systems and hybrid electric propulsion systems. This expansion will allow the incumbent Research Officer to lead research projects in this area by working with an interdisciplinary team and exploiting and further developing world-class research facilities.

These facilities include our recently electrified Cessna 337 Hybrid-Electric Aircraft Testbed (HEAT) which has been flying since 2022, the new Hybrid-Electric Research Outfit (HERO) facility, and a major hydrogen and battery electric flight demonstrator that is currently in development. Activities include participating in research and development projects, development of proposals for new research initiatives, project management, and providing research and technical services to NRC clients. The Research Officer also provides input into the overall direction and research priorities in sustainable aviation systems as well as in facilities, which enable such activities.

The incumbent will be responsible for performing research and development of systems for sustainable aviation, and building strong engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
