Duration: This is one (1) 18 months term position, as well as anticipatory staffing for positions of various tenures.

Note: Due to the nature of the work and operational requirements, this position will require some physical presence at the NRC work location identified, however, the option of a hybrid work arrangement (a combination of working onsite and offsite), may be possible.

Your Challenge

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada's largest research and technology organization.
We are looking for a Project Manager to support the Programs of our Research Centre. The ideal candidate would be someone who shares our core values of f Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity. Working closely with the Director of Operations, the Program Leaders and Team Leaders and other various key stakeholders, the Program Manager will help the Digital Technologies Research Centre to meet its objectives.
Examples of key collaborative programs, client-driven or applied research and applications supported by the project manager include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborative Science, Technology and Innovation Program (CSTIP) programs e.g., AI for Design Challenge program (AI4D), AI for Logistics program (AI4Logistics), Digital Health and Geospatial Analytics program (DHGA), Applied Quantum Computing Challenge program (AQC)
  • Multimedia Analytic Tools for Security (MATS) and Data Analytics Centre (DAC)

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:


Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science is required.  
Graduation in business administration or a program specializing in project management would be an asset.
Formal designation as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) would be considered an asset.

Experience
  • *Significant experience in supporting the management of projects involving multi-disciplinary teams and multi-partner resources.
  • **Extensive experience in the application of project management and in using project management software tools in a R&D environment.
  • *Significant experience in developing and managing effective working relationships between organizations.
  • Experience in contract negotiations.
  • *Significant experience in risk management techniques. 
  • Experience in the development of programs and projects as well as in advising and supporting the management of programs and managing projects involving multi-disciplinary teams and multi-partner resources.
  • Significant experience in data gathering, analysis, preparation and presentation of reports.


*Significant is defined as 2 to 6 years of experience.

**Extensive is defined as more than 7 years of experience.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:


Technical Competencies
  • Extensive knowledge of project management theory, procedures and practices and project management software tools.
  • Knowledge of the business environment relevant to the portfolio and its programs. 
  • Working knowledge of performance measurement and/or evaluation frameworks, principles and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of reporting in the SAP business system software and/or relevant Project Management software.
  • Solid ability using the SAP Projects Systems (PS) module would be considered an asset.

Behavioural Competencies
  • Management services - Client focus (Level 3)

  • Management services - Organizational and environmental awareness (Level 3)
  • Management services - Results orientation (Level 3)

Relocation

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.


Compensation

From $57,220 to $161,754 per annum.
