The Department of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto invites applications for the position of postdoctoral fellow (Limited Term) to lead biochemistry and structural biology research projects evaluating the structure and function of molecular chaperones and ATP-dependent proteases.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates require a Ph.D. with demonstrated academic and research expertise in the field of molecular biology, protein biochemistry and biophysics, and structural biology. Candidates must have evidence of independently designing, planning, and executing experiments. Experience with X-ray and/or cryoEM approaches is a must. Experience with molecular biology, protein biophysical methods, and protein-protein interaction studies are strong assets. The candidate is expected to be leader in the lab with respect to structural biology and biochemistry-related experiments. Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are required, and proven ability to work positively with others in a large, open, and highly collaborative laboratory.

KEY DUTIES

  • Fostering the successful completion of the existing projects that are on-going in the lab by designing, planning, and executing research experiments.
  • Contributing modern molecular and biochemical expertise directly to research programs focused on understanding the mechanism of action of chaperones and proteases.
  • Key techniques that the candidate should have expertise in include (but is not limited to): Experience in X-ray and/or cryoEM protein structure determination is a must; protein-protein interactions, small molecule-protein interaction, and drug screens would be an asset.
  • Reading published papers relevant to the experiments being performed and adapting procedures accordingly.
  • Liaising with collaborators and assisting in the compilation, analysis, and reporting of research findings to researchers within and outside of the program.
  • Assist in preparing manuscripts for submission to peer review publications/journals.
