Master’s Position Available – Investigating the Molecular Regulators of Brain Development – University of Manitoba
Description of the position:
This project aims to investigate the molecular regulators of neural stem cell lineage progression and their role in determining cell types and states in the developing central nervous system. The successful candidate will be directly supervised by Dr. Robert Beattie (expert in studying neural development using mouse models) and apply state-of-the-art single cell and molecular biology techniques such as Mosaic Analysis with Double Markers (MADM). The successful candidate will be admitted to the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics graduate program, where they will be expected to complete coursework in addition to their thesis-based research. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for scholarships to contribute to the annual competitive stipend provided by Dr. Beattie.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Excellent academic standing
- Strong work ethic and passion for discovery
- Interest in neuroscience, brain development, molecular biology and microscopy
- Experience or interest in using animal models
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
