We are inviting applications for a Master’s or PhD student position at the Faculty of Medicine, Laval University, in Quebec City, Canada. The selected candidate will join the team of Dr. Aurelie de Rus Jacquet and Dr. Abid Oueslati.

Our research:

We specialize in the study of Parkinson’s disease, with the objective to describe molecular mechanisms regulating pathogenesis. Dr. de Rus Jacquet focuses on the study of glial cells, their role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease, and mechanisms by which they modulate blood-brain interactions at the blood-brain barrier. We use patient-derived induced pluripotent cells and microfluidic technologies to model cell-cell interactions and elucidate disease mechanisms.

The project:

The Master’s or PhD project will focus on understanding how plasma proteins affect the function and survival of neuronal and glial cells in the context of Parkinson’s disease. The objective of this novel and exciting work is to discover new drug targets and propose innovative therapeutic approaches to slow or stop the progression of the disease. Technical approaches will include cell culture, immunofluorescence, imaging, biochemistry, cell biology and mass spectrometry.

Your profile:

  • Obtained a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Neurosciences, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences or related area
  • Strong academic record
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to improving human health
