         Sessional Instructional Assistant (SIA) Positions

               Winter 2022


Dates of appointments are January 1, 2022 to April 30, 2022. For course descriptions, schedule    of classes and tutorials/practicals refer to the Communication, Culture, Information and Technology Program at:https://registrar.utm.utoronto.ca/student/timetable/. Choose Session: Fall/Winter 2021-22 and Program Area: CCIT.

Qualifications(unless specified): Candidates must have formal education/experience that is specific to the subject area. Demonstrated excellence as a teaching assistant or a sessional instructional assistant is required.In addition, familiarity with PC and or MAC environments is required. For marking positions, candidates must be able to work well under time constraints and meet deadlines.

Duties: (unless specified as marking positions, may include but are not limited to one or more of the following): Conducting tutorials & maintaining scheduled office hours, student/instructor contact, grading, invigilating, clerical duties. Sessional Instructional Assistants must travel to UTM to carry out duties.

Qualifications: Must have completed a graduate degree specific to the subject matter. Experience working with first year undergraduate students in critically examining written, visual, aural, and dynamic rhetoric as it relates to communications for multi-purpose settings, including both academic and a variety of digital and interactive media discourses is required. Ability to instruct and assist students in writing and recording a Podcast is preferred. As grading is involved for this position, candidates must be able to work well under time constraints and meet deadlines.

Notes:

Final availability of positions is contingent upon final course determinations, enrolment, budgetary considerations and final determination of assignments flowing from Article 14:01 of the Collective Agreement. These jobs are posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.

The rate of pay for a sessional instructional assistant (SIA) is $46.92 per hour, plus vacation pay in accordance with the CUPE, Unit 3 collective agreement. The Director of the Communication, Culture Information and Technology Program shall make any and all offers of employment on behalf of the department at UTM. No other offers or notices of the outcome of applications are authorized by the Department.

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. 

It is understood that some announcements of vacancies are tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolment. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.  

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
