Dr. Kirychuk’s research team in the Canadian Centre for Health and Safety in Agriculture is looking for a graduate student (MSc or PhD) as part of an NSERC Frontiers Discovery grant on antibiotic resistance (AR) genes in the environment. The research includes indoor and outdoor air sampling in and around Saskatchewan livestock operations (dairy, swine, and poultry), and analysis of samples. The successful candidate will be responsible for contacting the potential sampling sites (farms), scheduling dates for sampling, travelling to the farms, undertaking standardized sampling procedures, storage and handling of collected samples, lab-based analysis of samples, and data analysis.
The student will be part of the research team involving other MSc and PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, and collaborators from five Canadian and 3 International universities involved in the project.
Requirements:
- Background in environmental health, microbiology, molecular biology, agriculture, or other related area
- Some familiarity of Saskatchewan livestock industries (poultry, dairy, swine).
- Skills in qPCR and molecular biology would be an asset
- Ability to work independently as well as work with other team members.
- Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment
- Some familiarity with air sampling equipment would be an asset.
- Valid driver’s license
- Travel is required.
