Your Challenge

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada's largest research and technology organization.

We are looking for Construction Policy Advisors to support our Construction Research Centre. The Construction Policy Advisors would be those who share our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

Successful candidates will work in the directorate for Codes Canada, a group that is responsible for providing administrative support to the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) and its committees in the development of the National Model Codes, at the interface with policy, regulation, and research.

Construction Policy Advisors will principally work within a team that supports a federal-provincial-territorial deputy ministers’ table and code system management board, supports a codes stakeholder advisory committee, and manages relationships with other federal departments and industry, standards, and other organizations within the construction sector.
As the code development system evolves to one that will increasingly be called upon to deliver regulatory solutions for policy mandates such as climate change and accessibility, Codes Canada is in need of experienced policy staff with technical backgrounds who are strong consensus-builders and who can:
•    support executive code system committees with high quality briefing materials based on knowledge of initiatives, policies and trends impacting the National Model Codes
•    work directly with technical content experts
•    develop strategic and regulatory policy options and present these to executive code system committees
•    work collaboratively with provincial and territorial colleagues in departments responsible for regulation and enforcement of construction codes
•    maintain strong relationships with organizations representing the concerns of the construction industry (e.g.. construction materials associations, contractors and installers’ associations, engineering and architectural associations), and
•    contribute to multi-jurisdictional, multi-stakeholder, and multidisciplinary initiatives in support of the development of guidelines, standards, and codes, including initiatives involving NRC research*.

Successful candidates will develop and maintain an understanding of building sciences, engineering and economics involved in the application of technology to design and construction.  Successful candidates will also develop and maintain knowledge of the National Model Codes, referenced standards and of the technical developments in these documents.

For interested candidates, the Construction Research Centre offers unique career opportunities ranging from research, to regulation, construction technology evaluation, multidisciplinary program management, and policy development on national priorities related to the construction sector.
