Post-doctoral Fellowships in Lung Genomic

Updated: 4 months ago
Deadline: 03 Jun 2019

Two post-doctoral fellowships with support from São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) are available through the project "Biomolecular markers of proliferation and remodeling in acute and chronic respiratory diseases: promising therapeutic targets," led by Prof. Dr. Vera Luiza Capelozzi of the Department of Pathology of University of São Paulo’s School of Medicine (FMUSP).

The project has as central proposal, through in vitro and in vivo models, to promote the understanding of the pathways of activation and regulation of cellular responses to insults and also the development of underlying mechanisms in the repair of pulmonary lesions. The elucidation of the pathways and factors involved in these responses will enhance the ability to identify biomarkers and to develop more effective treatments for the control of acute and chronic respiratory diseases. One of the major purposes embedded in this proposal is the translational aspect involving investigations into respiratory diseases such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, silicosis, among others.

The following activities will be developed over 24 months:

- Selection of cases through medical records;
- Clinical research;
- Histomorphometry;
- Immunohistochemistry for specific biomarkers in neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathologies;
- Molecular biology techniques applied to pulmonary genomics;
- Elaboration of MTA and analysis of results;
- Data tabulation and statistical analysis.

Applicant Requirements

The candidate must have a recent PhD in Science in one of the following areas: biology, medicine or other area in health sciences. The candidate must have prior experience in research and published work, as well as experience in molecular biology, and research involving pulmonary diseases.

Interested parties should send a message to the Principal Investigator of the project, Prof. Dr. Vera Luiza Capelozzi ( ). Candidates must submit their curriculum vitae, a cover letter and a letter of recommendation.

The position is open to Brazilians and foreigners. Those selected will receive FAPESP postdoctoral scholarship in the amount of R $ 7,373.10 per month in addition to the Technical Reserve. The PD Technical Reserve is equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the scholarship and is intended to cover unplanned expenses directly related to the research activity.
