Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Remote Sensing

Updated: 2 months ago
Deadline: 15 Sep 2020

The Nhecolândia region in the southern part of Pantanal in Brazil presents thousands of lakes with water types varying from freshwater to alkaline. Previous studies have shown that small variations in alkalinity may result in important changes in the production of greenhouse gases. The project aims to use passive (hyperspectral and multispectral) and active (SAR) remote sensing imagery to evaluate the spatial distribution and quantify the greenhouse gas emission of the lakes. For this, it is necessary to classify them according to their alkalinity, amount of organic matter in suspension, etc.

Required Skills: The candidate must have: (1) experience in RS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applied to Natural Sciences, Ecology, Soil Sciences, and Natural Resources; (2) skills to process images and generate relevant results for statistical analysis related to spatial and temporal models of spectral signatures of natural targets; (3) expertise with GIS’ such as ArcGis, ENVI, QGIS, etc. It is essential to have experience with SAR data processing and desirable, but not mandatory, basic knowledge of programming language, mainly JAVA Script for processing cloud images on the Google Earth Engine platform. The integration of the postdoctoral fellow with the project researchers is also desirable.

Attach: Motivation Letter; 2 reference letters; CV emphasizing the skills required in the project.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
