Post-doctoral Fellowship in Precision Agriculture

One post-doctoral position is available within the scope of a Thematic Project conducted at the University of Campinas’s Interdisciplinary Center for Energy Planning (NIPE-UNICAMP), São Paulo State, Brazil. The vacancy is for a postdoc who might be responsible for fieldwork and management of the group activities, working for the specific goal of delineating management zones and evaluating whether they allow proper crop-pasture site-specific management, increasing profits by yield increase and/or inputs reduction.

The selected candidate will deal with specific instruments and sensors, data storage and analysis, remote-sensing images (MODIS, Landsat, Sentinel, etc), no-orbital images (drones) and proximal sensing data. Moreover, he/she must develop sample planning strategies, fertilization prescription maps and greenhouse gas balance.

Desired skills and competence:

• A Ph.D. in agronomy, agricultural and mechanical engineering, computer science, etc.;
• Previous knowledge about precision agriculture and/or integrated production systems;
• Working knowledge of coding languages (C++, Matlab, R, etc.);
• Experience with GIS, statistic and geostatistic would be a bonus;
• Experience with analysis of remotely sensed data is desired;
• Minimum qualifications include a demonstrated ability to publish peer-reviewed papers, effective oral communication skills, and to work well in a collaborative team environment;
• Strong interpersonal skills and adequate fluency in English, Portuguese will be a bonus;
• Full-time work, 1 year.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
