The project aim (1) to discover if the evolution of the fungus Escovopsis is linked to the evolution of ants and their mutualistic fungi and (2) to describe new species of this genus by applying different taxonomic tools.

Applications are open for candidates who obtained PhD in Biological Sciences, Microbiology or related areas; and no more than 2 years post-PhD. Applicants with knowledge on the fungus-growing ant system are also highly recommended. The selected candidate should have knowledge on fungal isolation, molecular techniques (DNA extraction, PCR and sequencing), as well as knowledge in taxonomy, phylogenetics, systematics, and evolution of fungi (ancestral state reconstruction).
