A postdoctoral position is available at Laboratory of Microelectronics in the Department of Electronics Systems Engineering at Polytechnic School of University of São Paulo (Poli-USP), linked to Technological Innovation Program (PITE 2013/50440-7) in partnership with SABESP (São Paulo Water and Sanitation Unity).

The general goal of the PITE project is to develop chemical sensors based system to detect 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) and geosmin (GSM) in the water distributed to the population from the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (MRSP). It is expected that the system developed performs analysis in-situ and faster than the analytical instrumentation currently used.

The present postdoctoral project aims to develop specific chemical sensors based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) to detect MIB and GSM in water samples from the water reservoirs located at the MRSP.

Therefore different polymeric matrix and their interactions with the template (MIB or GSM) will be investigated. Also, the deposition parameters that influence the morphological and electrical characteristics of the nanostructured imprinted films will be evaluated. Impedance measurements will be used for water analysis.

For the development of this project, the selected postdoctoral fellow will receive a São Paulo Research Foundation-FAPESP’s full-time postdoctoral fellowship in the amount of BRL 7.373,10 (monthly) for 07 months. A research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which may be spent only in items directly related to the research activity. Required skills and experience

a. Interested candidates must have completed their Ph.D. in Electric Engineering (with emphasis on Microelectronic) or Chemistry, or in an area related to the intended project;

b. Must be independent, willing to work in a team and have good communication skills;

c. Excellent communication skills in English;

d. The position requires previous experience (proof documented) in thin film deposition techniques (layer-by-layer and spin coating), impedance spectroscopy, manufacture and characterization of chemical sensors and polymers, preferably by molecular impression manufacturing. Also, it is desired the candidate to be familiar with qualitative and quantitative methods of data analysis, such as Principal Component Analysis and Partial Least Squares.
