Post-doctoral Fellowship in Entomology

 The laboratory of Entomology of Public Health - Culicidae Ecology and Systematics of the University of São Paulo, Brazil, looks for a postdoctoral researcher who is highly motivated and scientifically productive to work on Project CADDE – Brazil-UK Centre for Arbovirus Discovery, Diagnosis, Genomics & Epidemiology, Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil (FAPESP Grant number 2018/14389-0), with research on mosquito vectors of arbovirus in areas of the State of São Paulo, Brazil.

Those interested should have a doctorate and proven experience in performing vector mosquito collections in multiple field situations; knowledge of molecular techniques used to identify species and viral agents that may be circulating in vector insect populations; availability to make collections in several areas of the State of São Paulo and, if necessary, in other regions of Brazil; computational skills, robust statistics and knowledge on the use of databases of Brazilian arbovirus notification systems and population data (IBGE) and others, will be of great importance. The candidate should conduct both the fieldwork and activities necessary to identify species with the potential to propagate wild arboviruses in general and yellow fever in particular.

The scholarship is for a period of at least one year and may be renewed, depending on the performance of the candidate, agreement of the project coordinator and approval of FAPESP. Preference will be given to candidates with a high probability of requesting and obtaining funding from research funding agencies, for example TDR/WHO, among others.

The start date is flexible and the position will remain open until a candidate with the required profile is selected. Initially, candidates must apply from April 22nd 2019 until May 08th, 2019. It is encouraged that interested parties ask questions and request clarifications about the postdoctoral degree before sending the documents. This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP’s Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of BRL 7.373,10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
