UCL Energy Materials Laboratory focuses on materials and device innovation for sustainable energy storage technologies. We are offering a Postdoc position on high voltage Li-ion batteries. The research project focuses on the development of Generation 3b Li-ion batteries. You will be embedded in a collaborative research framework. This will enable you to interact with leading academic and industrial partners including also a large cell maker and automotive industry. Your task is to investigate and mitigate electrolyte decomposition by also developing surface-coating strategies on high voltage positive electrode materials and composite electrodes. Within this project, the ability to publish is not restricted. Generation of intellectual property in the form of patents is encouraged.

Selection process

We are looking for a highly self-motivated team player ready to work independently in UCL’s vibrant international research environment. The ideal candidate possesses a PhD in chemistry, materials science or related fields. Prior experience in electrochemistry and battery research is compulsory.


Additional comments

UCL Energy Materials Laboratory is fully equipped for electrolyte development and testing. State-of-the-art facilities include synthesis labs with fume hoods, Schlenk lines, rotary evaporator, temperature-dependent viscosity, conductivity, and density analysis, thermal analysis (TGA, DSC), Raman and FTIR spectrometers, glove-boxes, facilities to assemble coin cells and Swagelok cells, electrochemical characterization including battery cyclers, impedance spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer (including operando cells) etc. Access to NMR, elemental analysis (CHN, XRF, ICP-OES), advanced electron microscopy facilities (SEM, TEM) and surface analytical tools (XPS, ToF-SIMS) is also available.
