The Rademakers team is a leader in the genetic and molecular studies of FTLD with a rich network of collaborations in clinical and basic neuroscience and access to unique patient samples and multi-omics data from brain tissue of FTLD patients and controls. This specific project will be closely linked to the ARTFL-LEFFTDS Longitudinal Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration study (ALLFTD), an NIH-funded multisite research consortium in which the Rademakers Laboratory co-leads the Genetics Core.
Our team is looking for a postdoctoral researcher who will work on large sets of genomic and phenotypic data to improve our understanding of FTLD and related disorders. Your job will be to apply biostatistical approaches to our datasets and work in close connection and collaboration with team members working in the clinic and the wet lab. Within the team, you will be expected to work independently and drive your own research projects. This position will also include a part-time (~20%) position to assist with the diagnostic genetic analysis of young-onset dementia patients in collaboration with the Center for Medical Genetics at the Antwerp University Hospital (UZA). As part of this role, you would provide supervision of the laboratory and bioinformatic analyses and assist with the interpretation of results in consultation with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and geneticists.
Profile
We seek a creative and ambitious individual with a strong interest in genetics and biostatistics.
Essential
- Ph.D. in genetics, biostatistics, neuroscience, or related disciplines
- You have acquired relevant practical experience with genetic data analyses and biostatistics
- You are familiar with the analysis of next-generation sequencing data
- You are capable of independently planning, executing, and troubleshooting your daily work, and take an interest in driving your project, including identifying and proposing productive research directions.
- A solid publication record with at least 2 first- (or last-) author research publication(s) in peer-reviewed and impactful international journals
- Efficient communication and writing skills, and excellent mastery of the English language
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international research team
Desirable but not required
- Prior expertise in the genetics of dementia, including the clinical interpretation of variants in dementia-related genes
- Prior experience with wet-lab genetic and neuroscience techniques
What we offer
- Financial support for at least 2 years. The applicant will be assisted in applying for personal fellowships during this time (Marie-Curie, HFSP, EMBO, National funding organizations).
- A motivated team where each scientist has a personal project.
- Access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and core facilities in a vibrant, world-class research environment operating at an international level.
- Dedicated training programs are available through VIB and UAntwerp to broaden your expertise and enhance your skillset.
- A stimulating and international research environment
- A strong and dynamic network of international collaborators
Starting date: as soon as possible
How to apply?
Motivated candidates are asked to apply via the online tool.
Applications must include:
- a detailed CV
- a letter of motivation explaining why you are interested in our work and aspire a postdoc
- the name and contact details of three references (including supervisor of Ph.D. thesis)
